Dr. Chanell Marthinussen is a dedicated medical doctor at Innohealth Medical Centres in Cape Town and serves as the Chief Product Officer at Innohealth Technologies. A proud first-generation graduate from Stellenbosch University (Class of 2018), she hails from Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats and is the first doctor in her family.
Her passion for women’s health ignited during high school, where she witnessed the impact of high teenage pregnancy rates, and deepened in medical school through her focus on the female reproductive system. Today, she uses her voice and platform to challenge taboos around menstruation and reproductive health.
Dr. Marthinussen is the founder of The F-Word, a bold, purpose-driven movement aimed at empowering women through education, access to sustainable hygiene products, and open, stigma-free conversations. The “F” stands for Female, Freedom, and Flow — a powerful call to champion menstrual equity and body autonomy. The menstrual cup is the movement’s flagship product, symbolizing freedom in life, work, and health.
Through her work, Dr. Marthinussen empowers women to take ownership of their bodies and invites men to become allies in the conversation. She believes education is the key to reducing teenage pregnancy and unlocking the potential of women in underserved communities.
