Approaching the colder season means an increase in colds and flu. Having a strong immune system does not mean never getting sick. However, having a strong immune system can support the body in fighting sickness.
3 tips that can help support the immune system.
1. Regular meals.
Include breakfast, lunch, supper, and snacks. These meals provide energy for the body and will strengthen the body in preventing or fighting off colds and flu. Having regular meals makes it easier to include a variety of foods into the daily diet.
2. Variety/colour.
Have a variety of colourful meals. It will ensure that essential vitamins and minerals are absorbed, which supports the immune system. Vitamin C and vitamin A are important to include in your diet. They include citrus fruits and a wide variety of vegetables. You can include these in soups and vegetable stews, including citrus fruits, lunch bags, etc.
3. Get enough sleep.
When sleeping, some proteins are released that support the immune system.
These proteins help against inflammation or infection. Not getting enough sleep may cause a decreased release of these proteins, which can affect the immune system.
