WorkingMama Power List 2026 editorial hero: the words "The Power List, Explained" in cream and fuchsia beside pink satin heels and gloves on a deep maroon background.
Recognition has become cheap. A ranking can be bought, a "top founder" badge can be traded for a follow, and a list can be padded until a place on it means very little. That is exactly the problem the WorkingMama Power List was built to solve.

The Power List is the centre piece of our Q4 issue, and it is not a leaderboard of the loudest. It is a considered record of the professional women, founders, and leaders who are shaping business and community in ways that hold up to scrutiny. It follows the same principle that governs everything we publish: depth over volume, substance over trend.

That principle is not a slogan. We deliberately limit each quarter to a curated few features rather than filling pages with paid noise, because a name only carries weight when it sits among names that were chosen with care. The Power List is that discipline made visible. A place on it is meant to mean something precisely because most names are not on it.

What the Power List is

Think of it less as a ranking and more as a recognition of proof. We are not looking for titles. We are looking for the work. Where much of the online conversation rewards visibility, the Power List looks for evidence, and it recognises three kinds of women:

  • Professionals and leaders: senior corporate women, executives, and specialists making measurable impact in their field or organisation.

  • Founders and entrepreneurs: women building businesses at any stage, from first year to scaling, whose work deserves more visibility.

  • Community builders: women who lift others as they rise. Mentors, community leaders, and those whose impact extends beyond their own success.

It is curated, not crowdsourced by popularity. Every nomination is reviewed against our criteria, and we look for impact, integrity, and a story worth telling. Vague submissions are not shortlisted, and a nomination does not guarantee a feature. That is what protects the list's credibility, and it is why being named to it reads differently from winning an online poll.

Why it matters now

Our Q3 issue asked what leadership actually costs. The Power List is the natural answer to that question: it turns the spotlight onto the women who have paid that cost and led anyway. For the professional women who make up our audience, women who control real spending power at home and in business, this is not celebrity coverage. It is peer recognition inside a high-trust environment, the kind that opens conversations, partnerships, and credibility that outlast a single post.

For brands and partners, the same logic holds. Being associated with the Power List is being associated with a standard, not a stunt. It signals that you value the same things our readers do: rigour, integrity, and women who have earned their place.

What being named means

This is where recognition becomes tangible. We select 21 finalists. Twenty are featured in the WorkingMama Power List Booklet, and the Winner is revealed in our Q4 magazine. The top 5 finalists join us as VIP guests at the Pink Carpet, our invitation-led celebration in Cape Town, where the Winner is handed a R10 000 cash prize.

That mix is deliberate. A printed booklet that lasts, a magazine reveal that carries weight, and a room of peers who understand exactly what it took to get there. Recognition you can hold, not just scroll past.

How to take part Know a woman who belongs on the Power List? Nominations are open now, and you may nominate yourself or someone you know. Tell us who she is and what she does, what she has built, led, or achieved, why her story belongs on the list, and how she lifts others around her, at workingmamaza.com/feature-nomination.

From there the process is simple. Every nomination goes through editorial review. Shortlisted women are contacted directly for a brief profile interview ahead of publication. The WorkingMama Power List 2026 is then published in our Q4 print and digital issue on 30 October 2026.

The invitation is the same one that sits behind everything we do: help us recognise the women who are doing the real work, so that the recognition still means something when it arrives.
