Malachi Jacobs first picked up a hockey stick at just four years old. What began as afternoons spent watching his mom play hockey soon became a passion that would shape his life.
Growing up around the astro turf, Malachi absorbed the game naturally. His love for hockey quickly turned into dedication, discipline, and consistent hard work. That early spark has since grown into impressive achievements for such a young athlete.

At only 12 years old, Malachi was selected for the Durbell Northern Zonals U12/A team. The following year, after intense trials, he earned a place on the Western Province U13/B team, known as WP Disas. That team went on to win gold at the 2025 WP Regional Tournament, marking a major milestone in his young career.
More recently, Malachi and his was chosen for the Western Province Top Schools Invitational team, on their 2026 Netherlands and Europe Tour. What makes this selection remarkable is that his school did not even qualify for the Elite Annual Top Schools Tournament, where most players are scouted. Instead, Malachi was pre-selected based on his league performances and Western Province results alone, a true testament to his talent, consistency, and determination.

Now, Malachi has been given an extraordinary opportunity.
In 2026, he will take part in the European Hockey Tour, where he will compete against top clubs and train under elite coaches in cities such as Amsterdam, Antwerp, and Rotterdam. This international exposure has the potential to shape not only his skills as a hockey player, but also his confidence, mindset, and future aspirations.

For Malachi’s mother, Courtney, this journey is deeply personal.
Being a mom for the past 13 years, Courtney has stood on the sidelines through every training session, match, and late afternoon practice. With the support of her parents, she has done everything possible to nurture Malachi’s talent within her means.
“I am not a wealthy woman,” she shares, “but I refuse to let finances be the reason my child does not walk through a door that God has opened.”
While Courtney continues to contribute as much as she can, the full cost of the tour is beyond what she can manage alone. This is where the community comes in.
Supporting Malachi is not just about helping one young boy travel overseas. It is about investing in potential, inspiring hope, and showing young athletes that dedication can open doors regardless of background or circumstance.
Malachi’s journey reflects what is possible for children from the northern suburbs of Cape Town and beyond. With the right support, he could become one of many young South Africans who rise to compete on global stages.
